UNIVERSITY PARK, Texas --Roddy Beaubois isn't back on the court, other than doing some casual shooting, and there remains no timetable when he will be cleared to practice. But, the young Dallas Mavericks guard is showing daily signs of improvement in his recovery from left foot surgery, coach Rick Carlisle said Thursday.
"He’s not doing anything on the court yet except some spot shooting and then the [stationary] bike in practice," Carlisle said. "Then we bring him back [to the American Airlines Center] and he walks and runs in the underwater treadmill. But, he’s getting a little better every day and at the right time he’ll be back into it."
The Mavs are getting set for the afternoon workout, which will be the first scrimmage of training camp. Carlisle wouldn't divulge how the 16-man roster would be divided other than to say a blue team and a white team. Good choice.
"We're going to look at different combinations," Carlisle said. "We're looking at developing a bench that’s strong, four or five or six deep. We’re looking at that as one of our main goals."
Fans will get a glimpse of the Mavs for the first time during Monday night's Fan Jam at the American Airlines Center. The event begins at 6:45 p.m. Dallas opens the preseason on Tuesday night against the Washington Wizards.
