DALLAS -- The Mavs will switch up the starting lineup tonight against the Bulls, giving rookie Dominique Jones a look at shooting guard next to Jason Kidd and brining Shawn Marion off the bench.
The fivesome the Mavs used down the stretch last season -- and during the preseason opener -- has probably started its last game together.
Rick Carlisle's concerns about the Mavs' slow starts certainly weren't eased against the Wizards. The Mavs dug a double-digit hole in the first quarter with Kidd, Caron Butler, Marion, Dirk Nowitzki and Brendan Haywood on the floor.
"That lineup lacks playmaking," Carlisle said. "Kidd is really the only guy that's a put-it-on-floor, make-a-play kind of guy. That adds to the challenge. Chances are we're going to go away from that."
Chances are that Rodrigue Beaubois will settle into the starting lineup as the shooting guard once he recovers from a broken foot. But the Mavs will use the preseason to experiment with other lineups.
That's been a trend the last two seasons for the Mavs. Carlisle hopes that isn't the case again once the games count.
"I'd love to have one starting lineup," Carlisle said. "I think that's always the best way to go."
