Mavs will go 'really slow' with Roddy Beaubois

DALLAS -- After Rodrigue Beaubois broke his foot this summer, the Mavs brass declared that it wasn't too big of a deal as long as he recovered in time for the season opener.

Two days before the season begins, the Mavs aren't sure when their dynamic young guard will be ready to go.

It sounds as if it will be a matter of weeks, not days. Beaubois remains in a protective boot, which was briefly removed two and a half weeks ago only to quickly be put back on when he experienced soreness.

"We’re going to take that really slow," president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson said. "We want to make sure that he’s 100 percent. We’re not putting any timetable on that. When he’s right, he’ll be out there."

The issue for Beaubois isn't just recovering from the August surgery and chipping off the rust. He missed valuable experience at point guard because he wasn't able to play international ball or during the preseason.

It's likely that Beaubois will start at shooting guard this season. Will he come off the bench while blending back into the rotation at first?

That's a question coach Rick Carlisle doesn't have to answer right now.
