DALLAS -- Caron Butler participated in parts of Sunday's workout at the American Airlines Center and Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said he's unsure if the small forward will be back in the lineup for Monday night's big game against the undefeated New Orleans Hornets.

"I don’t know yet. Day-to-day," Carlisle said. "He did some things [at practice], but he didn’t do everything so we’ve got to see where he’s at in the morning."

Butler has missed the last two games, both wins, with back spasms that forced him out of the third quarter last Monday against the Boston Celtics. Butler reported significant improvement prior to the Mavs' game Friday night and he took to his Twitter account Saturday to joyously announce that, "I'm back mobile!!"

If Butler is out for a third consecutive game, Shawn Marion will again step in. Marion has turned in two terrific games filling in as the starter. He scored 20 points in Memphis on Wednesday and had 16 Friday against Philadelphia. In the two games, he's made 18-of-26 field goals, elevating his season shooting percentage to 53.4.
