Dirk Nowitzki didn’t get to sit long Wednesday night after picking up his fourth foul in the third quarter in New Orleans. Reason being: Dallas promptly surrendered 16 of the next 18 points when Nowitzki went to the bench.

It wasn’t an isolated incident, either.

In just the latest indication that the purportedly deep supporting cast repeatedly promised going into the season isn't delivering, Dallas is being outscored by 23.1 points per 48 minutes with Nowitzki off the floor through 10 games.

The Mavericks, by contrast, are outscoring the opposition by 13.8 points per 48 minutes when Nowitzki is on the floor.
