Point guards way off point from the arc

December, 10, 2010
DALLAS -- If one area of semi-concern has emerged during the Dallas Mavericks' 11-game win streak, it's the 3-point shooting of their point guards.

Bill Simmons, The Sports Guy, joins Ben and Skin talk about his new release, "The Book of Basketball", as well as Marc Stein's multiple personalities and the Dallas Mavericks.

Jason Kidd had become as deadly as anyone in the league from beyond the arc -- better than 40 percent the last two seasons -- and J.J. Barea was pretty adept at knocking down the long ball, too. Over the past three seasons, Barea's shot it at a 36.1-percent clip.

But, both players have hit hard times. During the 11-game win streak, Kidd, who has still had a knack for going 0-fer and then hitting the late, crucial 3, is 17-of-54 for 31.5 percent, which has dropped his season average from the arc to 35.2 percent.

Barea's shot has just plain cratered. He's 3-of-21 for 14.3 percent from the arc during the win streak, which is actually his exact percentage for the season (7-of-49).
