Besides Caron Butler, Mavs lose road mojo

It provides little consolation now after Wisconsin native Caron Butler suffered a potentially season-ending knee injury in Saturday night’s loss in Milwaukee, but the 11-1 road record that Dallas brought to Butler’s home state was actually one of the best starts in league history.

The Elias Sports Bureau reports that the Mavs were just the fifth team to win 11 of its first 12 road games since the NBA-ABA merger in 1976-77.

The four others, though, all made it to 12-1: Philadelphia and Milwaukee in 1980-81, Houston in 1993-94 and Boston last season.

Seven of the Mavs’ 11 road wins came against teams with winning records, but they will be grateful to eke out a win in Cleveland on Sunday to come away with a weekend split against two sub-.500 from the East with Dirk Nowitzki and Butler out for sure with knee injuries and Shawn Marion having sat out the Milwaukee game with a thigh contusion.
