Dirk Nowitzki jams right wrist

DALLAS -- Dirk Nowitzki headed to the locker room after the first quarter. It appeared that he suffered an injury to his right hand.

(UPDATE: Nowitzki returned to the Mavs' bench midway through the second quarter. He suffered a jammed right wrist, according to the Mavs. He immediately returned to the court after a timeout and ditched the brace he had been given.)

Nowitzki was clenching the hand for the final minute of the first quarter. He headed straight for head athletic trainer Casey Smith after the quarter, giving teammates fives with his left hand on the way.

Smith checked out the hand on the bench for a couple minutes before joining Nowitzki on the tunnel toward the Mavs' locker room.

The Mavs went 2-7 without Nowitzki this season while he was sidelined with a sprained right knee. That's the most time he has missed in any season during his 13-year career.
