HOUSTON -- It was Peja Stojakovic's most productive quarter in a Mavs uniform. And Ian Mahinmi was a monster off the bench.
But the Rockets still have a 25-23 lead over the Mavs after the first quarter.
Stojakovic, who had only 14 points on 5-of-20 shooting in his first few games with the Mavs, scored eight in the quarter. He was 3-of-4 from the floor, taking advantage of a height mismatch by posting up Houston shooting guard Kevin Martin.
Mahinmi, not Brendan Haywood, came off the bench when Tyson Chandler picked up his second foul five minutes into the game. The energetic Frenchman contributed five points and four rebounds.
But the Rockets hit 11 of 20 shots from the floor, including a few easy layups in transition.
