DALLAS -- Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle has a message for Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who is averaging 22.3 points and 8.7 rebounds a game yet was not selected to play in his first All-Star Game.

"I want to go on record saying I voted for him," Carlisle said Monday. "I did and I don't know how he didn't make it. I really don't. He's had a great year. He's been a monster both games we've played him. We know him well because he's a Dallas guy and he's around here during the summer. But, we hate seeing him and we hate playing against him because he's so good."

The Mavs have a 2-0 edge in the season series and entering Tuesday's game Dallas (47-19) and Portland (37-29) are in position to meet in the first round, although the standings can change from night to night.

Both games this season have been tightly contested at the American Airlines Center (the Mavs are making their first of two late-season trips to the Rose Garden). Dallas pulled out an 84-81 win on Dec. 15 and then a 103-98 win on Jan. 4. The 6-foot-11 Aldridge, a Seagoville product, was dominant in both with a pair of double-doubles. T

He had 28 points and 10 rebounds in the first game and 35 points and 10 boards in the second with a combined nine offensive rebounds.

Since Feb. 1, Aldridge has posted MVP-type numbers of 24.1 points and 8.6 rebounds for a scrappy team that has battled through injuries all season and recently acquired athletic small forward Gerald Wallace from Charlotte.

"He's having a tremendous year," Dirk Nowitzki said of Aldridge. "He's tough because he's got length, he's got the in-between shot, he's really worked on his post moves it looks like, really getting points in the paint, jump hooks both ways, can drive it. He's a handful, but that's why Portland is a good team...We've g0t our hands full, but we've got a lot of long bodies in there and we've got to do a good job on him if we want to win the game."
