Offensive fireworks lead to tie after 1Q
MIAMI -- Compared to Game 1, the first quarter of Game 2 was a scoring bonanza that has the Mavericks and Heat tied, 28-28. The teams combined for 33 points in the opener.
Once again, the Mavs seem to be in the position they are through smoke and mirrors. They withstood a Heat run midway through the quarter and are getting scoring help up and down the lineup. Dirk Nowitzki, playing with a splint on his left middle finger is 2-of-4 for four points. Shawn Marion and DeShawn Stevenson each have six.
Tyson Chandler has five and Brendan Haywood chipped in with a nice inside shot for two points.
LeBron James and Dwyane Wade are tied for the Heat lead with eight points each.
Both teams are shooting better than 56 percent, but the Mavs have been much better on the boards, leading that department 8-7 overall and 2-1 on the offensive glass.
