DALLAS -- The Mavericks will not have center Brendan Haywood, who has a strained right hip flexor, for Game 3 of the NBA Finals.
Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said his team will have to play small, and that means guard Rodrigue Beaubois will be active for the first time in the Finals and Ian Mahinmi, a 6-11, 230 pound center, will also see some playing time.
"It will change our rotation, obviously," Carlisle said. "He's one of our biggest guys; we all know that. We got some different scenarios. Mahinmi will play some minutes, and then there's a possibility we could do some other lineups that will obviously be smaller, and we may have to adjust."
Haywood, who averaged three points and four rebounds in the first two games, injured the hip early in the fourth quarter of Game 2.
"I was hoping for a miracle," Haywood said. "It didn't happen. Hopefully I'll be ready for Tuesday [Game 4]."
