Dallas Mavericks forward Shawn Marion thinks if anyone can win two rings in different arenas he's the man to do it. Marion will soon receive his NBA championship ring after the Mavs beat the vaunted Miami Heat in six games last month.

His quest for that second championship ring -- er, make that a World Series of Poker bracelet (which surely makes Mark Cuban grin) -- will have to wait another year. Marion was bounced from the tournament near the end of the first day of competition earlier this week.

Marion is a regular at the World Series of Poker as part of his annual July trek to Las Vegas, where his mother and two of his three sisters live. Marion, who grew up in North Chicago and will be honored there with a rally on Monday followed by his basketball camp, attended UNLV.

According to a story in the Las Vegas Sun, Marion finished around 800th out of the 3,389 players who signed up for the tournament. That was well short of the money, as players had to make the top 342 to receive a payout.

“Tournaments are hard to play,” Marion told the paper. “I’m a cash game type of guy. You have to be patient, wait for cards and sometimes you wait for so long, you get antsy.”
