Don't expect to see Rautins; Vince Carter coming

DALLAS -- The Tyson Chandler sign-and-trade is complete with the Dallas Mavericks reaping a valuable trade exception, a protected 2012 second-round draft pick from the Washington Wizards and Knicks second-year guard Andy Rautins.

Don't expect Rautins to be J.J. Barea's replacement or anything else. Rautins isn't expected to make the trip to Dallas because the team is expected to waive him.

* As for the potential signing of Vince Carter, it is on track and could happen Sunday. The Mavs say he is expected in town Sunday, but likely won't be signed in time for at least the first of two practices. At Friday's practice, Brandan Wright said he prefers to play power forward, but has played some center in smaller lineups.

* Rudy Fernandez missed his second practice as he remains stranded in Spain because of visa issues. Coach Rick Carlisle said he does not know when Fernandez will make it to Dallas. Carlisle said he is eager for the 6-foot-6 shooting guard to arrive and said he's savvy enough to quickly pick up the Mavs' system. "We think his game fits our style and our personnel," Carlisle said. But the coach also cautioned that Fernandez will have to earn his minutes at a position that looks to get even more crowded with the likely addition of Carter.

* Carlisle said he views newcomer Brandan Wright, a lanky 6-foot-10 power forward as more of a center-power forward than the other way around. That would assume that Wright will compete with Ian Mahinmi behind Brendan Haywood, if those are the only options. As ESPN.com's Marc Stein is reporting, the Mavs are seeking to use the trade exception to acquire veteran center Samuel Dalembert from the Sacramento Kings.
