Eight-time All-Star Vince Carter is officially a member of the Dallas Mavericks and is expected to participate in his first practice on Tuesday, which is also media day at the American Airlines Center.
Carter's contract is for three years at the "mini" mid-level exception of $3 million for this season, the most the Mavs could offer (the reduced MLE is one of the new provisions of the recently ratified collective bargaining agreement). The next two years are partially guaranteed.
It sets up a reunion of Carter and Jason Kidd from their days with the New Jersey Nets, who traded Kidd to Dallas in February 2008. Carter, a former rookie of the year and slam dunk contest champ in his younger days, has bounced from New Jersey to Orlando to Phoenix and now to Dallas over the last three seasons.
