Sean Williams officially signs with Mavs
Williams, Ian Mahinmi and Brandan Wright all will have an opportunity to earn playing time.
Williams, 6-foot-10, 235, was the 17th overall pick of the New Jersey Nets in the 2007 draft, but his career has been marked by maturity and discipline issues. The Nets released him after his third season, and Williams spent last season playing in Frisco for the Texas Legends in the D-League.
Known as a shot-blocker and solid defender, Williams will have to wait a day to practice with the team. Coach Rick Carlisle gave them Wednesday off after Tuesday night's second and final preseason game. Williams will have just three days of practice before Sunday afternoon's season opener against the Miami Heat.
