DALLAS -- Dirk Nowitzki reached 23,000 career points with the first of two free throws in the second quarter of Friday's game against the Milwaukee Bucks, becoming the 23rd player in NBA history to reach the milestone.
He now has 23,001 points.
Nowitzki is just the third active player to hit 23,000, joining Kobe Bryant (28,232) and Kevin Garnett (23,442).
He now needs 333 points to crack the top 20 on the NBA's all-time scoring list. Along the way he will pass Elgin Baylor, Adrian Dantley and Robert Parrish.
Already this season, Nowitzki has recorded his 8,000th career field goal, his 1,200th 3-point bucket and surpassed 1,000 career games played.
