Jason Terry, Rodrigue Beaubois will not play
Terry, the team’s second-leading scorer, is out with a mild right quad strain, coach Rick Carlisle said. A personal situation will also keep Terry out of Friday’s game at the Philadelphia 76ers. Carlisle said he’s hopeful that Terry will be with the team for Sunday’s nationally televised game at the New York Knicks.
“We don’t believe [it] to be serious, but he’s going to sit tonight,” Carlisle said. “It’s been something that’s been there a little bit and we want to try to knock it out of there.”
Beaubois’ father passed away unexpectedly Wednesday. The third-year guard is not with the team and it is uncertain when he will rejoin the club.
Beaubois has not played in the last three games since starting point guard Jason Kidd returned to the lineup after missing six games.
Little-used second-year guard Dominique Jones will be active tonight. Missing two guards will likely increase minutes for reserve guard Delonte West and could put pressure on Carlisle to keep Kidd’s minutes to around 25, the target number since Kidd returned from a strained right calf on Feb. 10.
“It’s going to b a challenging situation for us,” Carlisle said.
The Mavs have had their share of minor injuries this season. With Terry sitting, small forward Shawn Marion is the only player to have played in every game. Terry will see his streak of playing in 126 consecutive games snapped.
