Don't expect Delonte West back in action for a number of weeks. The feisty guard underwent surgery today to have stabilizing pins inserted in the right ring finger he fractured and dislocated during Wednesday's game.
Then he'll have to have the pins removed before getting back to basketball activity. The team did not set a timetable for his return.
That's a tough blow for Dallas, which has relied on West to play tough perimeter defense and spell Jason Kidd at the point, as well as play some shooting guard. His absence puts more pressure on Rodrigue Beaubois and/or Dominique Jones to step up at point guard.
Without West, Kidd is the lone natural point guard on the roster.
West has started 20 games and has averaged 8.3 points and 3.4 assists in 22.7 minutes a game. He recently returned to a bench role, backing up Kidd.
Dallas will play tonight's game at Philadelphia vastly undermanned at the guard position. Sixth man Jason Terry and reserve guard Beaubois are both away from the team for personal reasons.
