The long, strange Lamar Odom saga won't include a trip to New Orleans for Friday's game against the Hornets.

A Mavericks spokesman said the team will provide another update on Odom's status before Saturday's home game against the Utah Jazz.

Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com's Marc Stein that the Mavs hope to have Odom in uniform in a matter of days. Owner Mark Cuban met with Odom and his agent, Jeff Schwartz, on Wednesday in Dallas while the Mavs were in Memphis to play the Grizzlies.

Without Odom, the Mavs have a major depth issue at power forward behind Dirk Nowitzki, who left Wednesday's loss in the second quarter due to lower back tightness but said he expects to play Friday night.
