Pregame buzz: Jason Terry out; Derrick Rose in
Terry, the man who never wants to sit and even said so after the win over the Rockets, agreed with Carlisle that a night off would do the body good. He and Kidd got in an early workout on the United Center floor. Terry will be in uniform, so he could be used in a pinch.
"It's cool," Terry said. "Get some rest. I got a good workout in with J-Kidd, so it'll be all right."
Terry said he'll play Thursday night in Atlanta against his former team. He said that was part of the decision in sitting out against a Bulls team that will be playing to win to keep a hold on the No. 1 seed in the East. Terry started his career with the Hawks and still owns a home there and has plenty of friends who will be coming out to watch him play in the regular-season finale.
With Terry and Kidd sitting, it presents another opportunity for Rodrigue Beaubois to get on the floor and state a case for a spot in the playoff rotation. It looks like he will be challenged going up against last season's MVP in his return from his latest injury.
"He needs to play well for us," Carlisle said. "This is the kind of game that is a good barometer for where he is. It's a different kind of physical challenge than a lot of games that we've had recently because you've got really probably the most physical team in basketball and they're guards are very physical, too. This is a great opportunity for him and we need him to play well in the absence of our two veterans."
Asked if Beaubois has played up to Carlisle's standards this season, the coach said: "He's made strides. We're always going to want more, we're always going to push for more, but he's done some good things. Last night wasn't his best game, but tonight he's got a chance to lace it back up."
