Shawn Marion on Durant scoring title: 'That's OK'
Either way, he said, the Mavericks come into tonight's Game 1 boasting confidence.
"It’s a little bit of both, but at the same time it’s more of last year a little bit because we know they didn’t really change anything," Marion said. "They added one or two different players, but for the most part we know what we’re capable of doing and we know how this team plays."
Marion will start the game defending Kevin Durant. Asked if Durant added any new elements to his game since he averaged 28 points on 42.9 percent shooting in last year's West finals, Marion couldn't think of much that he's seen new in the four meetings this season.
"He’s a talented player," Marion said. "I think he won the scoring title this year, right? That’s OK."
Marion also saw some time on Russell Westbrook last season, but whether Marion is playing small or power forward, he will predominantly be looking to contain the league's leading scorer the last three seasons. Durant's the first to do that that since Michael Jordan.
"Right now I’m starting on him," Marion said. "So you know what it is and let’s get it."
