FRISCO, Texas -- Dirk Nowitzki said he has texted with Deron Williams and all he can do now is wait for the All-Star point guard to make up his mind whether he wants to continue his career with the Dallas Mavericks or the Brooklyn Nets.

Both teams are scheduled to meet with Williams in New York on Monday and his decision is expected not long after.

Nowitzki, playing host to his Heroes Baseball charity game tonight at Dr Pepper Ballpark, will not be part of the Mavs' traveling party. He'll be doing some traveling of his own to England to take in a little tennis on the lawn. A huge tennis fan and quite the player in his younger years, Nowitzki will attend matches at Wimbledon before undertaking other summer travel in Europe.

"He already knows how I feel about him," Nowitzki said of Williams. "I don’t need to fly there."

Nowitzki said he's laid out the team's plans to Williams and hopes he'll decide to play for his hometown team. But he also said he's optimistic that if Williams doesn't join the Mavs that owner Mark Cuban and president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson have other plans percolating.

"Even if this shouldn’t work out and he’s going back to Brooklyn, we’ve got to make something else happen," Nowitzki said. "We as the Mavericks, we don’t look at ourselves as a rebuilding organization. We always compete at the highest level there is and so I’m sure if he makes the wrong decision for us then we’ve got something else going."
