Steve Nash will listen if Deron Williams out
ESPN.com's Marc Stein reports that a Mavs-Nash sitdown has not yet been scheduled, and Stein says sources tell him that the Toronto Raptors and New York Knicks remain the 38-year-old's top two choices, in no particular order.
The Raptors are pulling out all the stops to lure Canada's native son north of the border. Stein reported Sunday that Toronto has offered Nash a three-year, $36 million deal. The Knicks have also met with Nash, but can only offer him the $3 million mini mid-level unless they can work out a sign-and-trade with the Phoenix Suns.
Nash joined the Mavs in 1998 on the same day the Mavs made a draft-day trade to acquire Dirk Nowitzki. He signed a significant free-agent deal with the Suns in 2004 and went on to win two league MVP awards and narrowly missed multiple chances to advance to the NBA Finals.
In Stein's sitdown with the Nash last week in New York, Nash said that his abrupt departure from Dallas after owner Mark Cuban declined to match the Suns' offer believing that Nash's body would not hold up over the long haul, is water under the bridge.
