As the Dallas Mavericks scramble to fill out their roster in free agency, the club's Summer League squad is coming together at a much crisper pace.
The Mavs join 22 other NBA teams and a D-League select squad in Las Vegas for a five-game schedule starting next Saturday (Mavs schedule below).
The Dallas team will be headlined by guard Dominique Jones, who heads into his third season looking to make a serious push for a rotation spot. He didn't get the chance to compete in Vegas last summer because the lockout wiped out the league. The Mavs' three draft picks will also carry intrigue: combo guard Jared Cunningham (24th), center Bernard James (33rd) and small forward Jae Crowder (34th).
The team is expected to be coached by Mavs assistant Monte Mathis and players are expected to report to the American Airlines Center by Wednesday.
Others expected to be on the roster and battle for an invite to training camp:
PG Dee Brown (last played in NBA in 2008-09)
PG Justin Dentmon (played for Legends in 2010-11)
G Chris Roberts (Fort Worth product played for Legends last season)
SF Micah Downs (Gonzaga product has played overseas)
PF Drew Gordon (Strong rebounder out of New Mexico)
PF Keith Wright (2012 all-Ivy second team from Harvard)
PF/C Solomon Jones (33rd pick by Hawks in 2006)
C David Harrison (played for Pacers from 2004-08)
