The 5-foot-11 Akognon, who is known for his deep shooting range, was never expected to make the roster. He has a guaranteed deal to return to the Chinese Basketball Association, where he averaged 28.5 points per game last season.
Akognon averaged 2.3 points in 3.7 minutes in three preseason games with the Mavs.
