Darren Collison inactive with sprained finger

CHICAGO -- Dallas Mavericks point guard Darren Collison is inactive for Wednesday's game against the Chicago Bulls with a sprained right middle finger, the team announced.

It’s unclear how he suffered the injury but X-rays were negative. Either way, it leaves the Mavs thin at point guard.

Per usual, coach Rick Carlisle did not address the team’s starting lineup during his pregame media availability. Dominique Jones will make his second straight start at point guard for the Mavs, who have lost consecutive games.

Collison came off the bench for the first time this season in Tuesday’s 100-98 loss at Philadelphia, contributing 12 points, six assists, five steals and four turnovers in just under 30 minutes.

Carlisle said he thought Collison played “great” against Philadelphia.

“It’s on me to make sure he’s playing stretches of minutes that aren’t too long,” Carlisle said before Wednesday’s game. “When he gets tired then his effectiveness goes down, like any player. But I loved the way he came into the game, especially the beginning of it, and he had a very good night.”
