Elton Brand starts; Chris Kaman benched
Elton Brand is replacing Chris Kaman in the starting lineup. He'll join guards Darren Collison and O.J. Mayo and forwards Shawn Marion and Dirk Nowitzki in the Mavs' league-high 16th starting five.
The 7-foot Kaman has started the vast majority of the games this season, including the last 23, but Brand is a much better fit with Nowitzki.
The Mavs are plus-2.0 points per 48 minutes with the Brand/Nowitzki duo on the floor and minus-11.1 when Kaman joins his former German national teammate on the court.
As Nowitzki once noted, the problem with pairing him with Kaman: "Both of us can't guard nobody."
