That’s why he determined that re-signing with Dallas was the best decision for him despite interest from several other teams as a free agent this summer. He didn’t want to leave an organization that he has the “utmost respect for” to start over in another NBA city.

“I’m the type of guy who is all about momentum,” Wright said Tuesday after agreeing to a two-year deal worth $10 million plus incentives. “I think I’ve created good momentum with the Mavs the last two seasons and can keep getting better. I thought it was the best situation for me to stay.”

Wright was a minimum-salary reclamation project success story the last two seasons. He finished particularly strong before becoming a free agent, averaging 11.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 24 minutes per game to help the Mavs go 15-8 down the stretch while unsuccessfully fighting for a playoff spot.

The plan is to pick up right where Wright left off. He expects to come off the bench behind Samuel Dalembert at center and possibly see some spot minutes at power forward, resuming his role as a high-flying, high-efficiency spark off the bench.

“I envision it’s going to be similar to that, if not asking for more,” said Wright, the eighth overall pick in the 2007 draft who found a home in Dallas after injury-plagued stints with the Golden State Warriors and New Jersey Nets. “The confidence is growing more and more in me as a player. I think more is going to be expected of me.”

That will be reflected in Wright’s paychecks, which will be more than five times as large as the last couple of seasons. The reclamation project earned a key role and a big raise.
