Coach Rick Carlisle had nothing but nice things to say about Samuel Dalembert after the Dallas Mavericks’ second preseason game.
Dalembert, whose conditioning was publicly challenged after his four-foul, four-turnover, 11-minute outing in Monday’s preseason-opening loss, performed like the interior presence Dallas desperately needs a couple of nights later.
The 6-foot-11, 250-pound Dalembert grabbed seven rebounds and blocked two shots in 20 minutes during the Mavs’ 95-90 road win over the Memphis Grizzlies. His 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting should be considered gravy.
"He did a terrific job,” Carlisle told reporters. “He carried the momentum of a really terrific practice yesterday and tonight. The biggest thing is that he was in position all night. His length is a major factor. He rebounded. He's getting more in tune with what we're doing. There are a lot of positives.”
Dalembert didn’t have to bang with Marc Gasol, the Grizzlies’ All-Star center who took the game off. Nevertheless, it’s encouraging that Dalembert seemed to respond to Carlisle’s button pushing.
