DALLAS -- Mavericks forward Shawn Marion, who missed the last two games due to a sore right shoulder, plans to play Wednesday night against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Update: Marion did start the game.

“I felt good,” Marion said after practicing Tuesday. “I think the flexibility is back to probably about 85 percent. It felt a lot better than it did the last few days. It’s been good, been positive. With no setbacks, I feel like I should be good to go tomorrow.”

Marion, who is averaging 11.1 points and a team-high 6.9 rebounds per game, was originally injured when he crashed to the court in the Mavs’ Jan. 7 win over the Los Angeles Lakers, bruising his shoulder and ribs. He missed the next four games and played in pain for a couple of weeks before the Mavs opted to rest him the last two games.

Marion’s presence is particularly important against Memphis because of the Grizzlies’ rebounding prowess. Led by power forward Zach Randolph and center Marc Gasol, Memphis ranks fourth in the NBA in rebounding margin (plus-3.2 per game), while the Mavs rank third to last (minus-3.6).

“They are a handful,” Marion said. “They attack the offensive glass almost every time. They’re persistent at doing that. We’ve just got to make sure we make it hard for them, keep a body on them and run them. They want to play a half-court game. We’ve got to push the tempo of the game and play our tempo. We can’t let them dictate the game. We’ve got to hit them first.”
