DALLAS – Mavericks point guard Jose Calderon did not return after getting hit in the face with an elbow 45 seconds into Sunday’s overtime loss to the Brooklyn Nets, but he did not suffer any significant damage.

“Don’t think it’s serious, but I have not gotten an official word on it,” coach Rick Carlisle said.

Nets rookie center Mason Plumlee’s inadvertent elbow caused some bleeding in Calderon’s upper lip and nose, but no stitches were required. Calderon did not lose any teeth or suffer any broken bones.

Calderon, who was not available to the media, was dealing with discomfort and swelling. His status for Tuesday night’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder is to be determined.

The injury to Calderon, who is averaging 11.4 points and 4.8 assists this season, caused Devin Harris to play a season-high 40 minutes against the Nets. Rookie Shane Larkin, who had been out of the rotation, was the only other active point guard on the Mavs’ roster and played 13 minutes.

Harris had 11 points, seven rebounds and six assists in Sunday’s loss, but he was only 4-of-15 from the floor and committed four turnovers.

“Now Harris has to play a lot more minutes, which he’s been working up to, but it’s a tough task for him right now,” Carlisle said. “We’ve got to work our way through it.”
