Al-Farouq Aminu on Mavs' radar

Add Al-Farouq Aminu to the list of small forwards that the Dallas Mavericks expressed interest in during the first day of free agency.

Aminu, who averaged 7.2 points and 6.5 rebounds for the New Orleans Pelicans last season, should be significantly less expensive than the Mavs’ other known fallback plans if they fail to sign a big-fish small forward in free agency.

Aminu is not nearly as accomplished as Chandler Parsons, Luol Deng, Trevor Ariza or Paul Pierce, but the Mavs are well aware of the 23-year-old former eighth overall pick’s upside. The athletic, 6-foot-9 Aminu has had a pair of 16-point, 20-rebound performances against Dallas.

While Aminu has an extremely limited offensive skill set, he’s the kind of project who could blossom in Dallas if he comes at the right price and would definitely address the Mavs’ desire to add length and athleticism to the roster.
