Haywood, who has missed the last five games with a sprained right knee, continues to get closer, but it doesn't appear he is quite there. He participated in some of Tuesday's shootaround and was running sprints at the end. He said lateral movement remains his biggest obstacle.
Afterward, Haywood said on his way to the locker room, "Can't call it. Got to go by feel."
"I don't think he's going to play [tonight], but he's getting closer," Mavs coach Rick Carlisle said regarding Haywood. "That's what I think. That could change."
But, probably not.
West won't play in tonight's game against the Houston Rockets despite some optimism spread late last week that he might be able to return as early as tonight. West said he is targeting his return at Miami on Thursday or at Orlando on Friday, but noted that next Monday's home game against the Clippers might be the more realistic date.
"He's stepped up his level of activities and he's doing better," Carlisle said. "But, this is going to take a little time and there's going to be some pain involved, even when he comes back and he knows that. But, he's no quite ready."
