Celtics spank Mavs in crunch time

By Tim MacMahon

DALLAS -- The Mavs take pride in being a veteran team that knows how to close games.

So do the Boston Celtics.

And the Celtics did it better on the Mavs' home court Saturday night.

Boston walked out of the AAC as 102-93 winners simply because the Celtics executed much better with the game on the line. A back-and-forth game was really decided with a pair of possessions right after the two-minute mark. The Celtics moved the ball to get Paul Pierce a wide-open 3 that he knocked down. The Mavs followed that up by botching a two-man game between Jason Terry and Dirk Nowitzki, resulting in a turnover that led to Rajon Rondo's game-sealing layup.

The Mavs' league-best winning percentage in games decided by five points or fewer (9-2, .818) didn't take a hit. But that's only because Boston was so dominant down the stretch.
