Chris Paul won't play tonight
By Jeff Caplan
NEW ORLEANS -- The Mavericks won't have to contend with All-Star point guard Chris Paul tonight. Paul will miss his second game after sustaining a concussion in Sunday night's game.
Paul attended the team's shootaround this morning, but did not participate. The club is not putting a timetable on his return. Jarrett Jack is starting in place of Paul.
Meanwhile, swingman Trevor Ariza (groin) will be a game-time decision. He has missed the last four games.
A prolonged Paul absence could seriously jeopardize the Hornets' playoff chances. The Mavs and Hornets are currently positioned for a first-round matchup, but the Hornets are just one-half game ahead of eighth-place Memphis and two games ahead of ninth-place Phoenix.
Paul has averaged 21.0 points and 10.0 assists in the first two games against the Mavs. The teams have split, with the home team winning.
The Mavs will conclude their shootaround soon and we should find out if center Tyson Chandler will return tonight after missing three games with a sprained right ankle.
