Jason Terry: 'Emotions got the best of me'

By Tim MacMahon

LOS ANGELES -- The Mavericks had essentially lost the game by the time Jason Terry lost his cool.

That doesn't make it excusable, which Terry understands.

A brouhaha began in the fourth quarter when Terry shoved Steve Blake from behind as the Lakers guard tried to go up for a layup. Blake responded by getting up off the hardwood and getting in Terry's face. As they exchanged words, Lakers forward Matt Barnes got in the middle of it.

Once the dust cleared, those three players were ejected along with Mavs center Brendan Haywood, whose infractions weren't clear after watching several replays of the incident.

"It’s been a long week for me," said Terry, who traveled to his hometown of Seattle on Tuesday to attend his aunt’s funeral. "Emotions got the best of me tonight. I already apologized to the team. You just can’t let that happen in big games. But the game was getting out of hand, so things happen."

Terry acknowledged that he was frustrated by his performance. He scored only five points on 2-of-9 shooting in the loss.

He is not concerned that the league could give him further punishment for the flagrant 2 foul.

"There was no intent to hurt anyone," Terry said, "so I don’t see a suspension."
