Jason Kidd to play; Rockets down two
By Jeff Caplan
HOUSTON -- With an opportunity to move past the Los Angeles Lakers and reclaim the No. 2 seed with a win tonight over the Houston Rockets, Mavericks point guard Jason Kidd will play.
He said after Sunday's game that he might take tonight off, but clearly the importance of the game has trumped another night off.
"He wants to play tonight, so he'll play and we'll go from there," Mavs coach Rick Carlisle said. "I don't want to run his minutes up or anything like that. We won't. But, this is an important game for us."
It could be made easier with a couple of starters missing from the Rockets' lineup. Guard Kyle Lowry (left foot) and power forward Luis Scola (left knee) will not play.
Former Suns backup point guard Goran Dragic will start in the backcourt with Kevin Martin and Chase Budinger will will start in place of Scola. The Rockets won't start anyone taller than 6-foot-9 rookie forward Patrick Patterson.
