Dirk Nowitzki: 'The finger is really good'

By Tim MacMahon

DALLAS -- It didn’t take a medical degree to figure out that the torn tendon in Dirk Nowitzki’s left middle finger didn’t bother him too much in Game 2.

Just look at the game-winning bucket. Nowitzki spun to his left, took two hard dribbles past Miami’s Chris Bosh and finished over Udonis Haslem with a pretty lefty finger roll.

That was one of several strong moves Nowitzki, who wore a light splint to protect the finger, made to his left Thursday night. That ought to be enough proof that the injured finger won’t be a problem during the Finals.

Nowitzki confirmed after Saturday’s practice that the finger isn’t a concern.

“The finger is really good,” he said. “Got to keep it straight. It was throbbing a little bit after the game the other night, but I guess that’s normal. And it’s going to be okay.

“Once the adrenaline always starts flowing during the game, I think I’m OK. It doesn’t bother me during the game. That’s the major thing.”
