After 1: Mavs 24, Jazz 20

By Jeff Caplan

DALLAS -- Lamar Odom made an early appearance less than five minutes into the first quarter because Dirk Nowitzki was getting a tape job to fingers on his left hand, an injury that appears to minor. At least Nowitzki was laughing while head athletic trainer Casey Smith checked him out.

And it was minor enough, as Nowitzki checked back into the game for Shawn Marion with 3:49 to go, although he continually seemed to be fidgeting with his fingers. Odom came out at the 1:49 mark with two points and one rebound.

Nowitzki (3-6 FGs) leads the Mavs with six points, and Jason Terry started hot with five points on two shots.

Josh Howard has six points for the Jazz, four of which were scored against Odom. Al Jefferson also had six points.

The teams are tied on the boards, 10-10. The category was one of coach Rick Carlisle's keys to victory after the Mavs got hammered on the glass Friday by New Orleans.
