Carlisle indicated that West's suspension for conduct detrimental for the team, which occurred after a postgame outburst in the locker room Monday night, would be brief if the meeting went well.
"I hope it gets resolved quickly," Carlisle said. "Until we talk to him and hash through it, I won't know for sure."
Carlisle left open the possibility of West playing in Wednesday night's preseason game against the Phoenix Suns. However, asked if he was certain that West would be on the roster this season, Carlisle made no guarantees.
"We're going to talk to him today and see what's what," Carlisle said. "Beyond that, I can't give you an answer."
O.J. Mayo, while respectful of Carlisle, said the Mavs are looking forward to West's return.
“He’s a great dude," Mayo said. "You hear stories about all of us. They said I’m the next thing to a killer [laughing]. It is what it is. Perception and reputation is everything, but D-West is great in the locker room and he’s helped me a lot this season.
“We have a great locker room. I’m pretty sure guys will give D-West a call, make sure all is well. Pretty sure Coach did what he felt was best for the team at the time. That’s the way it goes. At the end of the day, we’ve got to keep on getting better. When he comes back, we’ll have open arms for him.”
