Harris has 'slight setback,' hopes to play before Christmas

By Tim MacMahon

Guard Devin Harris suffered a “slight setback” recently during his recovery from summer toe surgery.

Harris experienced some pain and swelling in the toe. He continues to practice with the Mavs, but he no longer is trying to push to make his season debut by mid-December.

“It’s hard and it’s been frustrating, but it’s a process and I’ve just got to stay with it,” Harris said after Tuesday’s practice in San Francisco, according to the official team website. “It’s been hard, because you want to get out there and I know I can help. But I want to be out there for a complete stretch and not in and out. I kind of did that last year, so the important thing is just getting back to 100 percent so I can be out there for the majority of the time.

“I’m getting there. I would say a couple of weeks ago I felt a lot closer, but obviously we’ve got to manage it to see where the swelling is coming from and gauge it. Hopefully, it’s an early Christmas present but not a New Year’s resolution. I’m sticking with that.”

Forward/center Brandan Wright, who has been out since suffering a nondisplaced fracture in his left shoulder the day after the preseason opener, is much closer to making his season debut. Wright will not play Wednesday against the Golden State Warriors, but it’s possible that he could be cleared for Saturday’s home game against the Milwaukee Bucks.
