Shawn Marion (shoulder) misses practice

By Tim MacMahon

DALLAS – Forward Shawn Marion did not practice Thursday due to soreness in his right shoulder and is considered day-to-day.

Marion missed four games after crashing to the court in the Mavs’ Jan. 7 win over the Los Angeles Lakers, bruising his shoulder and ribs. He has averaged 10.0 points and 5.9 rebounds in eight games since his return -- numbers that are below his norms -- and has made only 12 of 35 shots from the floor in the last four games.

“Marion’s been fighting through this thing, and it’s just tough,” coach Rick Carlisle said. “He knows how much we need him, on the one hand. On the other hand, it’s clearly affected him offensively, so we’ll see. We’ll see.”

Marion’s status for Friday night’s game against the Sacramento Kings is to be determined.

Guard Devin Harris “took a light day” Thursday, Carlisle said. Harris, who spent the first half of the season rehabilitating from summer toe surgery, has averaged 8.8 points and 3.2 assists in six games. He scored 14 points in each of the last three games and played a season-high 25 minutes in Wednesday night’s loss to the Houston Rockets.

“He just needed a bit of a break because he’s been doing a lot,” Carlisle said. “He’s fine for tomorrow.”
