The Dallas Mavericks waived long-shot guards Jerome Randle and Drew Neitzel Thursday morning.

The 5-foot-10 Randle put up a good fight in the two preseason games, averaging 11.0 points and 2.0 assists in 18.0 minutes. He scored 17 points in Tuesday's loss at Oklahoma City.

Neitzel also played in both games.

The odds were heavily stacked against both players because of the veteran Mavs' depth.

The cuts take the roster down 14, leaving one spot open that the Mavs can use to explore possibly adding another center.

The Mavericks officially confirmed Sunday night that they've acquired forward Lamar Odom from the Lakers.

The Mavs sent a protected first-round pick to the Lakers for Odom, a 2012 second-round pick and other second-round considerations.

The Mavs also announced they've signed free-agent guard Drew Neitzel, who spent last season playing professionally in Germany. He played four season at Michigan State and averaged 18.3 points for the Spartans in 2007 as a junior.
