No, Mark Cuban is not buying the Chicago Cubs or his hometown Pittsburgh Pirates. He is joining the United Football League ownership group.

The league is heading into its second season and just wrapped up its annual meetings in Orlando, Fla., where it made the announcement that Cuban is the newest league owner. Cuban's HDNet will continue to be involved in the broadcasting of games, along with Versus.

"We are delighted that HDNet Chairman Mark Cuban has strengthened his interest in the UFL beyond his broadcasting commitment by becoming an owner in the league," UFL commissioner Michael Huyghue said in a release.

The 2010 United Football League season starts on Sept. 17 and will conclude with the Championship Game during the week of Thanksgiving. The majority of games will be played on Fridays and Saturdays."
