I thought the game is always made up of two parts: stopping goals and scoring goals. I didn't think we did either of those very well today. I give them credit. Wondolowski scored two very good goals. Both goals were a bit of a surprise. For us, it was a quiet first half. I didn't think we put the goalie under enough pressure. The second half we were inspired. We played extremely well. We attacked from a lot of different angles and weren't fortunate enough to pick up a goal. It's a disappointing loss for us at home. At the same time, I think it's an opportunity for us to continue to grow and continue to develop our character.

On Fabian Castillo's debut...

I thought he looked very good. It was his first opportunity to play for us. He played a little bit against the (U.S.) Under-20s, about 20 minutes. What we wanted to do was give him a chance to see how the game was being played and then put him in. I thought he made an immediate impact in taking people on, getting behind the opposition and putting San Jose under pressure.

On halftime adjustments...

We talked about how their back four was very comfortable because we hadn't gotten behind them. It doesn't matter how we get behind them whether it's a run from a striker, a flank player or even a fullback, what we need is to put them under pressure in that space. I thought we did a much better job when Castillo came in because he was able to do it by himself. And then I thought we did a much better job when Avila came on because I thought he was a little bit quicker in the midfield and the penetration. If you look at the stats in the second half, we were getting a lot of opportunities.

On switch to a 3-5-2...

It was just trying to get more numbers up. We knew the crosses were going to be coming with the speed on both flanks and we just felt like we needed another strong person up front to be on the end of them.

FC Dallas Captain Daniel Hernandez
It was ridiculous that we gave them that much space. After we gave them those two goals it was a situation where it was tough to penetrate their defense. In the first half we didn’t really have any shots on goal. Obviously, the second half it got better. We missed several chances. If we would have been able to get that first goal it would have opened up the game a little bit. I think we would have been fine. It was just one of those games. San Jose basically just wanted to defend and they did a great job of it. But at this level you cannot give up two early goals. It is just going to kill you.

Defender George John
On San Jose midfielder Chris Wondolowski
[Wondolowski] is just like any other forward really. He’s a scrapper. He’s a fighter and he gets goals – got two goals tonight.

On having two different center back partners in the first two games of the season
Playing center back has a lot to do with the partnership with the guy next to you. I played with Brek [Shea] the first game, played with Zach [Loyd] this game and not a lot of training in between because we were down in Mexico midweek. Right now we are just hitting some rough patches. It will come together.

San Jose Earthquakes head coach Frank Yallop

I thought Dallas obviously deserved to get something out of this game but we had two terrific goals tonight and Dallas missed a few chances. We were little worried that we lost the first game at home but I felt we came back and responded with a strong performance tonight. It was more important for Chris (Wondolowski) to get on track tonight because he missed two easy chances last week. Chris is such a good finisher, I think it was his only two chances tonight and he buried them. Simon (Dawkins) was fatigued as many of our players were in the second half but the reason why we were fatigued was because Dallas had the ball for much of the second half and pushed us to the brink of scoring.

Midfielder Chris Wondolowski

Today was really for Steven Lenhart. He had a tragedy in his family and we played with a heavy heart. He is part of our family and our hearts go out to him.

Goalkeeper Jon Busch

We will take goals from anyone we can but it seems like Chris (Wondolowski) is just picking up from where he left off last year. He was fantastic tonight and very opportunistic. We knew Dallas was going to press hard since they were down 2 – 0 after the half. It wasn’t pretty but we played effective soccer. We really wanted to win this game tonight because Steven Lenhart is going through some family issues right now so this victory is for him.

All I wanted to do was make myself look big and try to stand up against Milton (Rodriguez) and hope that he hits me with the ball. He tried to put it through my legs but fortunately, I was able to close it up and get my feet on the ball.
