When FC Dallas added 25-year-old Colombian forward Luis Perea last week, it was a nice addition to a fairly thin group of forwards. Only hours after getting off a plane from Peru, where he had been playing until his club fell into financial trouble, Perea had a goal and an assist in a reserve division game with Real Salt Lake.
Even with that impressive performance there were some issues, namely when it came to his fitness. FCD head coach Schellas Hyndman addressed those issues after a recovery session on Monday morning in Frisco.
“For him, it’s going to be an adjustment to the league. I think fitness wise, we’re not real sure but we’ll find out. Strength wise, very strong. Technical, very good but may not have the work ethic or the speed of play that’s going to be demanded right now,” Hyndman said. “Where he’s going to get more and more is reserve games. Yeah, I think he can, I think he can go [the] full [90 in Tuesday’s reserve game]. I just don’t know if he can go full the way I want him to go full.”
