Jair Benitez suspended for season opener against Chicago
Major League Soccer announced Wednesday that Jair Benitez was fined $500 and has been suspended for one game for his actions in a preseason match against Houston on Feb. 12. Benitez was accused of spitting at Houston Dynamo players in a pre-season match.
The suspension was originally set at two games, but the MLS Players' Union filed an appeal, and Commissioner Don Garber cut the penalty in half. Benitez will miss the club's season-opening match Saturday against Chicago.
