FC Dallas cuts down Timbers
By Buzz Carrick
FC Dallas ran roughshod over the Portland Timbers at Pizza Hut Park to the tune of a 4-0 beat down on Saturday night. It was a night of strong performance, good set plays, and career first goals.
Zach Loyd started the scoring for FCD off a corner from the captain Daniel Hernandez. It was Loyd's first career goal in a strong performance at right back.
George John grabbed the second goal off a Hernandez corner in the 38th minute to put FCD up 2-0 at the half.
Brek Shea put in a rebound from an Eric Alexander shot that went off the post in the 58th minute. That initial play was sparked by Jackson who had a tremendous game. Portland had no answer for the FCD wing-men who were real terrors on the flanks of midfield, Jackson in particular with perhaps his career night, certainly his best performance in an FCD uniform. Clearly Jackson meant it when he apologized this week to his teammates for his lack of focus.
Jackson did get on the score sheet late in the game with a blast from range... maybe. Initially scored a goal for Ruben Luna, which would have been his first career goal, as he knocked the ball in right on the line, the goal was later ruled for Jackson in the official game stats.
This goal is apparently being reviewed, the game story on FCD's stie says Luna, the stats on that same page say Luna, but the press release and official stats release says Jackson. Not that is matters in the end really who gets credit.
Stay tuned... maybe.
