Daniel Hernandez to start tonight?
By Todd Date
Based on the comments of FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman after a recovery session Monday, it looks like captain Daniel Hernandez, who missed Saturday’s 2-0 loss at Real Salt Lake due to a knee issue, could be in the starting 11 for tonight’s 2011 U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal match with the same RSL club at Pizza Hut Park.
“[Hernandez’s] good. He’s ready to go,” Hyndman said. “What we have to do is just decide if we want to put him out there.”
The Dallas gaffer called the decision to keep his captain and starting holding midback in Texas this weekend a precautionary move.
“Yes, and his knee has been bothering him. If he was 100 percent and ready to go we wouldn’t have not played him,” Hyndman said.
While he had some rough moments, Bobby Warshaw filled in for Hernandez in the last game. Bruno Guarda could also be an option for Hernandez.
However, the news isn’t quite so good for the other half of that central midfield tandem, Andrew Jacobson. He left the RSL match after 30 minutes and could miss a game or two.
“AJ’s a little banged up. He’ll probably be doubtful,” Hyndman said.
Ricardo Villar is the most probable option to replace Jacobson, but Eric Avila did provide a big spark off the bench in the last game and could figure.
